Model United Nations Society at Jacobs University
The Jacobs University Model United Nations Society is proud of being one of the largest societies represented on our campus. Our members vary in their degree of expertise, including students with a longer MUN career that started in high school and total beginners. Moreover, - thanks to the international character of the University - the society's members come from a variety of cultural backgrounds. This diversity in membership stimulates highly interesting and authentic debates.
The MUN Society at Jacobs sees its main task in providing its members with the tools for good diplomacy. These involve excellent rhetoric and presentation skills, a thorough understanding of the rules of procedure utilized at the United Nations, expertise in the method of resolution writing and, of course, a thorough knowledge of the countries represented. We try to convey these skills in various events and activities offered throughout the year.
Regular workshops on the Rules of Procedure, Resolution Writing as well as a popular Rhetoric Workshop, are among them. Furthermore, we organize Practice Debates on campus to which external guests are also more than welcome.
Social Events have only recently become part of our offers, hopefully leading to a society tradition. These events are intended to bring members of society and faculty members in the field of politics or international relations together in a rather private atmosphere. Speeches and related discussions provide our members with a background in real life diplomacy which they can train by attending MUN conferences. Hence, we send out delegations to a variety of conferences at least twice a year. Based on the experience of the members attractive conferences around the world are chosen.
