International Court of Justice

The International Court of Justice (French: Cour internationale de justice; commonly referred to as the World Court or ICJ) is the primary judicial organ of the United Nations. It is based in the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands. Its main functions are to settle legal disputes submitted to it by states and to give advisory opinions on legal questions submitted to it by duly authorized international organs, agencies, and the UN General Assembly.

As one of only fifteen judges, the power to guide future international conduct in will be placed in your hands. You will be required to assess all aspects of a case, question, analyze evidence, hear testimony, and ultimately deliberate effectively to reach the appropriate verdict. This will require an understanding of international law as well as an awareness of state interactions.

As an advocate delegates that are party to a case on the docket will be responsible to present their case to the court. This will require prior preparation (that will be coordinated by the BRIMUN Chair responsible for the ICJ).

This is a highly rewarding experience and it is the first time the ICJ will be held at BRIMUN. We are seeking a group of experienced MUNers willing to challenge themselves.
