Invitation from the Secretary General

Dear Delegates and Advisors,

Seeing the great achievements of BRIMUN 2008, the BRIMUN team is currently working towards making our 2009 edition an ever more challenging, exciting and rewarding conference than before. For this reason, we have concentrated in developing new features that will surely make BRIMUN a very unique conference.

In the hope of increasing interconnectedness and cooperation amongst the six selected committees, we have developed a conference theme. In 2009, you will be immersed in challenging discussions focusing in the overarching concept of "Democracy". For that aim, we have decided to select committees attempting to cover all disciplines associated with such a topic.

Human rights abuses and oversight will be addressed by the UN Human Rights Council. Issues regarding the spread of democracy around of the globe will be discussed in our biggest committee, the 4th Committee of the General Assembly -Special Political and Decolonization Committee. The UN Development Program will strongly focus in the first of its five prerogatives -Democratic Governance. The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) will serve as the main platform for economic and social issues and, finally, dramatic security issues will surely demand close cooperation between the UN Security Council and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). As expected, we will constantly put your nerves on edge thanks to our very distinct and classic component: our crisis.

On a different note, increasing the size of the conference to double is one of our pivotal goals. We have enlarged our capacities to welcome many more delegates from all corners of the world thereby adding more diversity to our conference. Furthermore, BRIMUN is a special opportunity to get to know new people, for which we have designed an exciting and thrilling social program. Throughout all nights of the conference, you will have access to great parties, relaxing chill-outs, intriguing guest lectures, and tasteful restaurant dinners -all offered by our conference.

The BRIMUN organization is constantly working towards improvement in order to meet the highest expectations of its participants. We have always received great feedback from our past delegates and have been praised by the high degree of professionalism and personal treat we have demonstrated in our past editions. We will be honoured to greet you in the campus of Jacobs University Bremen from the 5th the 9th of April 2009; an unforgettable experience awaits you!

Yours sincerely,

Andrés Navarrete Berges
